My passion as a journalist, producer and marketing multimedia professional includes has given me extensive experience working in TV, web, print, video, audio, and social media production. I currently serve as the Media & Communications Manager to support the creation and financing of affordable housing in Illinois. Prior to this position, I worked as a Program Manager, MC, and producer of multimedia content for conferences with international company’s and CEO’s focussed on innovation and new technology in real estate, construction, engineering, and architecture. My recent experience also includes working as a media consultant for Whole House Counseling and Chicago State University, and as an editor for the comedy web series Curls For Humanity. Prior to this, I worked for the City of Chicago and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as a broadcast content producer, digital content manager, and on-air TV host at WYCC PBS Chicago.
In addition to my education and experience in journalism, my focus on social justice issues has led me to work with diverse and vulnerable populations. My background includes extensive reporting with sources that include sexual assault survivors, at-risk youth, victims of violence, and people experiencing homelessness.
My experience in public speaking, on-air hosting, acting, theater directing, singing in a band, emceeing events, and stand-up comedy have also offered me an abundance of skills that I use often in my professional career.
I earned my master’s degree in Journalism from DePaul University, and I am a graduate of the Illinois Center for Broadcasting/Illinois Media School where I currently teach broadcasting part-time at the Chicago campus. I received my bachelor’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University in Justice Studies, with a minor in Spanish where the majority of my time was spent studying in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
My background also includes working as video journalist, producer, and the Marketing and Media Representative at La Casa Norte, a non-profit organization that serves youth and families confronting homelessness in Chicago. Through this role I produced videos and other marketing materials for the agency, and served as a public relations liaison to support coverage for the agency in local, national, and international news.
Prior to my main focus in media, I spent 10 years working in after-school programs with underserved youth, as well as in various schools, government, and non-profit agencies that focus on unmet human needs, education, public safety, environment, and disaster relief, grounded in two full time terms with Americorps Corporation for Public Service.
